Route of Sant Bertomeu. The sites of the Battle of the Ebro
This route visits some places of the Battle of the Ebro in the municipality of La Fatarella. It starts with a visit to the historic area of Les Devees, where the Consorci Memorial dels Espais de la Batalla de l’Ebre (COMEBE) has recovered trenches from that time and installed information panels to give a good notion of the battle area.
The route continues along the path of the Montagudells, wich in the past was used by La Fatarella people to go to Ascó and Móra, either on pack animals or by cart. The track enters a landscape of dense pinewoods that cover La Fatarella mountain range and then leads to the plain of Les Camposines, saving travellers a considerable descent. On this stretch we can enjoy the surrounding nature, contemplate the magnificent panoramic views or observe the remains of people’s traditional activities.
Into this landscape, we will find the Sant Bertomeu hermitage, from XIII century. Near this chapel we can find the Memorial de les Camposines, a place renovated by COMEBE to pay tribute to all those who took part in the Battle of the Ebro, and honour the remains of those who died in the region with the creation of an ossuary.
We can complete this route visiting the Interpretive centre “Internacionals a l’Ebre”.
