Route of the Waterwheels

The route takes visitors through a very attractive rural landscape, in which the dry crops of the mountains alternate with small irrigated vegetable gardens in the valley bottom and with spots of natural vegetation that appear from time to time. This farming mosaic around the town is an example of how human activity can be compatible with environmental conservation, and guarantees proper management of natural resources.

Dry stone buildings, particularly the walls and huts, are everywhere, as in the rest of the municipality. The most striking constructions here, however, are the waterwheels on the stream. These waterwheels were crucial for watering the zone’s crops as they allowed for extensive use of the stream’s groundwater through the use of their wheels, which raised the water required for irrigating the fields.

This route is purposely designed for those people travelling in family groups to get know the surroundings on a paceful stroll that is both very short and not very difficult.
